Cambi’s Calendar

The first half of the year has brought in several great achievements for our departments; many records have been broken in single author knock-downs, especially in the fast-growing categories of Design and Modern Art. Cambi Auction House now faces a second semester packed with appointments, where exciting new entries come to join the existing well-established auctions.
No fewer than 4 new departments have been opened in the past semester:  Antique cars and motorcycles, Collectible posters, Masters of comic art and Photography.
This brings the total number of departments above 20, as Cambi builds up its offer of specialised sales, from ancient arts to contemporary art, from luxury items to Oriental art. Our auction house upholds its will to never settle down and to keep seeking new markets; this has been our precept since the beginning, and a decisive one for our success.

The second semester will begin in our Milanese headquarters at via San Marco 22 on September 25 with one of our most successful auctions:  Design. Our premises in Milan will then host the well-established appointments with Fine Jewels and Fine Design in November; in December, instead, two of our highest profile auctions will take place: Modern Art and Oriental Art. The Genovese headquarters at Castello Mackenzie, where we specialize in ancient art, will hold a rich auction of Antiques and Nautical art in October; November will be the turn of  Silver and Antique Paintings, leading up to the auctions hosted in December for Sculptures, Antique Books, Majolica and 19th-20th century Paintings.

On November 20 our Milan premises will host the first auction of the new department devoted to Collectible Posters. Sergio Pignatone, scientific consultant for the department, tells us: “The 20th century is the century of the duplicated image. The department puts up for auction entire collections of high-end illustrated books and books for children, liberty and art deco, erotica, magasines, and posters for advertisement, art and cinema. Every year the Milanese headquarters will offer two catalogues and two sales, including some among the most significant works from 20th century publishing.”

In keeping with the world’s major auction houses, Cambi is now opening up to the masters of the Ninth Art, featuring original panels by the artists who have made the history of world comics: Breccia, Crepax, Jacovitti, Manara, Pratt, Pazienza and many others. There are also sections devoted to the best Italian and international artists from the great “dream factories”: Disney, Marvel, DC, Bonelli and Astorina. The first auction of the Masters of Comic Art department will be held on December 10 2018 in our Milanese headquarters.

Photography

The last among the new departments is born in the wake of the success that photography is achieving on the international markets. The selected works include rare daguerreotypes from the 19th century, prints from the fathers of photography such as Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, Masters from the Italian school such as Gabriele Basilico, Gianni Berengo Gardin, and Mario  Giacomelli. A special focus is placed on contemporary international artists such as Andreas Gursky, Nobuyoshi Araki, Andrea Serrano, Cindy Sherman and Nan Goldin.
