On Monday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m., at its Milan headquarters on Via S. Marco, Cambi Auction House presents Fine Design. The highly anticipated live, single-round auction with a catalog of nearly 150 extraordinary lots and iconic objects that have made design history.
Among them, a unique and exceptional lot: the personal diary of Gio Ponti dated 1950 able to tell all the wonder and creativity of the immortal architect’s world.
Piermaria Scagliola, director of the Design Department, explains this more unique than rare object:
“These notes shows us the true world of Gio Ponti. A world rich of annotations , drawings, writings and thoughts. 1950 was a very important year for Italian design but it was also a very prolific year for the architect. In fact he intervened on interior furnishings,
on architecture and on the preparation and organization of international exhibitions.
Among the most interesting references in the agenda is Casa Lucano, also called Casa di Fantasia. The Lucano family gave the architect Gio Ponti the task of furnishing their apartment in Milan and then subsequently that of Sanremo.
Another very interesting note contained in the diary is that of the organization and preparation of the “Italy at work” exhibition which took place in New York in 1950. Among the appointments with the most interesting personalities from the world of design and Italian art world, we can remember Fausto Melotti, Lucio Fontana, Piero Fornasetti and many many others.
Among the most interesting notes we find in the agenda and for this reason the agenda is an unique document is that of the evolution that Gio Ponti creates by designing some chairs, but only on December 20th we can understand that it is probably the project for the “Leggera”, projected by Cassina in 1951.
We are well aware of the role that Gio Ponti had for architecture, for design, for collectors, for professionals, simply even for enthusiasts but for an entire Italian cultural movement in general. This agenda that will be offered for sale at Cambi Auction House is an unique document. It is an unique document of a character who shaped Made in Italy and brought Italy into the hearts of the whole world.”

Cambi Auction House hopes that such an important testimony will find acquisition by an entity that can enhance it and make it available to the public.
