From May 12 to 14, 2026, Milan is preparing to host one of the most anticipated events for enthusiasts and collectors: the numismatic auction organized by Cambi Auction House in collaboration with Crippa Numismatica. A landmark event in the field, bringing together as many as 1,700 lots and offering a fascinating journey through centuries of history.

The sale is structured into six sessions spread over three days, with a packed schedule guiding participants through an exceptionally rich chronological and geographical journey. From ancient coins to papal medals, the auction stands out for the variety and quality of the pieces on offer.

The first session is dedicated to ancient and medieval coins: from refined Greek issues, including an exceptional 5th-century BC double decadrachm from Syracuse, to coins of the Roman Republic and Empire. Byzantine and Ostrogothic pieces are also featured, along with the first part of the Donizetti Collection devoted to Italian mints.

Focus on Milan and Major International Collections

The second session broadens the scope with a selection spanning different periods and regions. Taking center stage is the collection of Milanese coins, featuring extremely rare pieces such as the gold ambrosino of the Ambrosian Republic, a symbol of a crucial moment in the city’s history.

Alongside the Italian issues, important international groups are also featured: from coins of the Holy Roman Empire to issues from Latin America, as well as specimens from British colonial India. A numismatic mosaic that reflects the economic and political evolution of different civilizations.

Medals and Papal History: The Grand Finale

The third and final session is entirely dedicated to medals, a field increasingly appreciated by collectors. Among the most significant lots are Napoleonic, Italian, and international medals, culminating in the renowned “Medals & Popes” collection, now in its third part.

This section represents a true journey through the history of the Church, featuring rarities linked to the Sede Vacante periods and important papal issues, including a medal of Leo XIII celebrating the Lateran Basilica.

The auction is not only a moment of sale, but also an opportunity for deeper study. It is indeed possible to book appointments with experts to preview the lots, receiving detailed advice on their state of preservation and the value of the items.

Participation methods are also extensive: in person, by telephone, or online via the MyCambi platform and major international portals. A flexibility designed to make the event accessible to collectors worldwide.

With its breadth and quality, the May numismatic auction confirms itself as an unmissable event for anyone wishing to explore history through coins and medals.
