On Wednesday, 5 March 2025, at 10 a.m., the Cambi auction house will present an unmissable event for lovers of art textiles and antiques. The auction will feature a selection of antique carpets belonging to the historical collection of Manlio and Raoul Cabib, renowned Genoese dealers who for decades have been a point of reference in the field of fine carpets.
The selection includes extraordinarily valuable pieces from different parts of the world, bearing witness to millennia-old textile cultures. These include rare tabriz carpets and important tapestries, including an Aubusson tapestry from the 17th century, considered the top lot of the auction.
For generations, the Cabib shop, located in Via Roma in Genoa, has been a temple of textile art, a place of worship for collectors and connoisseurs in search of unique pieces of unparalleled quality. The company’s philosophy has always been based on careful selection, with trips to the most important centres of textile production in the world, in search of artefacts capable of telling distant stories and traditions.

With the closure of the historic shop, this priceless collection is being put up for auction, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to come into possession of authentic masterpieces. Each carpet and tapestry carries with it the memory of journeys through the bazaars of the Orient, crowded markets and prestigious European galleries, where Raoul Cabib was able to recognise and collect authentic textile treasures with passion.
The auction is not only an opportunity to buy, but also a journey through time, among the complex textures and vibrant colours of works of art that still retain their charm. A legacy of beauty and tradition that is now preparing to write a new chapter, in the hands of new custodians.
